Teeth Whitening

Restore your pearly whites

If you’re not feeling comfortable with your smile because of discolouration or stained teeth, it’s worth visiting our Castle Hill dental clinic to discuss a tooth-whitening procedure. Smiling, talking and laughing are such important aspects of life, so it’s important to have a smile you feel confident showing. You might think that standard teeth-whitening toothpaste or over-the-counter teeth-whitening gadgets might do the trick, but more often than not, they’re not going to brighten your smile by themself. In fact, some teeth whitening products might do more harm than good.

Our expert dental team at The Village Dentist in Castle Hill has the expertise to provide professional teeth whitening services to ensure a bright and healthy smile. We offer two options to suit different lifestyles and budgets. We supply at-home whitening kits or offer an in-chair whitening service.

Below, you can explore some details on the two teeth whitening treatment options we offer at our Castle Hill dental practice:

In-chair teeth whitening

If you want the best results in the least amount of time, we suggest visiting our Castle Hill dental clinic for an in-chair teeth whitening session. This is our most popular teeth whitening option, as the whitening process is quick and effective. After just one session, you’ll notice major differences in the colour of your teeth! It’s important to keep in mind, though, that the tooth-whitening process works best on a set of clean and healthy teeth. Our dental team is likely to perform professional teeth cleaning before conducting the whitening procedure.

During the whitening procedure, our dentists apply a rubber dam around your teeth, protecting your gums from the whitening agent. We use a medical-grade whitening gel we apply to your teeth.Depending on how white you want your teeth to look, the procedure might take around 90 minutes, with the whitening process occurring in 15-minute phases.

At-home tooth whitening kits

Not everyone wants to spend 90 minutes in a dental chair, and we understand this! Your other option for whitening teeth is to use an at-home tooth whitening kit. Like the in-chair procedure, you require professionally cleaned teeth for the at-home kit to be effective. If you book an appointment with one of our highly experienced dentists at our Castle Hill practice, they can perform a professional cleaning and assess your oral health. The at-home whitening kit involves a whitening tray, which is essentially a mouthpiece. We custom-make these trays to fit your mouth, so they’re comfortable to use.

All you have to do is apply the whitening gel to your tray and place the tray in your mouth. You only have to wear the tray for about an hour per day for two weeks or as recommended by your dentist. The process takes longer than an in-chair teeth whitening, but you can do it from the comfort of your home and in your own time.

Several factors can influence the colour of your teeth. Some of these factors you can control while others you can’t do much about. For example, consuming tobacco products can cause discolouring, but you can control your consumption. Uncontrollable factors might be something like your genetics. Below, you can explore some reasons for tooth discolouring:

  • Specific food and drinks: There are some foods and drinks, such as coffee, wine and curries, that have the potential to stain your teeth.
  • Lack of oral hygiene: If you don’t practise healthy oral habits, you might have a build-up of plaque and stains.
  • Disease: Several diseases have the potential to cause tooth discolouration.
  • Medication: Depending on if you take medication, it might cause teeth discolouration.
  • Age: As you age, your tooth enamel deteriorates over time, which reveals a darker natural tooth colour.
  • Genetics: Depending on your genetics, you might inherit thick or thin layers of enamel compared to other people.
  • Dental trauma: If you damaged your teeth in your childhood or adulthood, you might have damaged the enamel on your teeth, showing a darker natural colour.
  • Tooth decay: This is usually one of the primary causes of tooth discolouration, as tooth decay can infect your gums and teeth, resulting in a darkened appearance.

Here, you can explore several answers to some of the common questions we get asked about teeth whitening at our Castle Hill dentist rooms.

Is the tooth whitening procedure safe?

If you receive teeth whitening services from a qualified dentist, then it’s safe. It’s a non-invasive, routine cosmetic procedure. Our dental team at Castle Hill also uses the most advanced technology and top-quality materials, so you can relax knowing you’re in safe hands!

How do I know if I can have my teeth whitened?

Not all patients may have the ideal oral health for teeth whitening. The best thing you can do is visit us for a check-up during which your dentist can assess your eligibility for the procedure. Below, you can explore a list of dental aspects that might make you unsuitable for teeth whitening:

  • tooth decay
  • current dental issues, such as gingivitis or periodontitis
  • oral cancer
  • extensively damaged teeth enamel
  • dental implants, bridges, crowns or veneers

How long will my teeth stay white?

How long your teeth stay white can depend on your lifestyle habits and oral health. If you maintain excellent oral hygiene and a balanced diet, your teeth might stay white for up to a year! It’s important to understand, though, after 24 hours of having the teeth whitening treatment, they can be particularly vulnerable to staining.
