From the little 'here and there' touch-ups to rehabilitation

At The Village Dentist, we’re pleased to provide Castle Hill residents with a wide range of cosmetic dentistry services to meet all budgets and smile goals. Dental bonding is a non-invasive, quick and simple general and cosmetic dental treatment and can be a great solution for when you just need that little touch-up here and there or if you are looking for a cost-effective smile rejuvenation

Our caring dental care team believe everybody deserves to have optimal oral health and be happy with their smile. To find out more about dental bonding or any other of our cosmetic dental treatments, you can book an initial consultation with one of our dentists who can help guide you toward the most suitable option for achieving your dream smile.

Undergoing dental bonding is usually a fast and easy process that can take as little as 30 minutes. While your dentist will let you know exactly how dental bonding works and what your bonding appointment will look like, here’s a little about what to expect:

Preparing your teeth for bonding: The first step is choosing a colour for the bonding resin your dentist will use that complements your natural tooth colour. Once this is decided, your dentist will gently roughen your tooth’s surface to create a surface that the bonding resin can attach to nicely.

Applying the composite resin: The next step involves your dentist applying the composite resin to the tooth and shaping it to create the desired appearance before setting it in a matter of seconds with a special light. Your dentist will then polish the bonded tooth to give it a natural look and a smooth finish.

Taking care of your newly bonded tooth: Luckily, with dental bonding, there’s pretty much zero downtime, so you can get back to doing whatever it is you do best in no time at all! To take care of your newly bonded tooth, simply follow a good dental hygiene routine and be mindful when eating hard food.

There can be a range of oral health issues and smile concerns that dental bonding can help solve. It can be hard to determine if dental bonding is the right dental treatment for you without having a dentist conduct a thorough oral examination and understand your individual needs.

If you are a suitable candidate, it’s important to note that dental bonding has pros and cons. Typically, composite bonding is cheaper than porcelain and we can do the procedure in a single appointment. However, composite bonding involves using a plastic material that can stain, chip and discolour over time, which leads to a duller appearance when compared to porcelain. This can, however, be fixed by polishing or repairing the bonding which may be required every 12 months.

Below, you can explore a few of the reasons our Castle Hill dentists may recommend dental bonding:

To treat teeth that have minor tooth decay: Bonding can be a suitable option to fill and seal off small cavities in your teeth because of decay. It can prevent bacteria from entering the cavity and causing further decay and can also restore aesthetics.

To repair small cracks or chips: Small chips and cracks in your teeth may not alarm you, but ignoring them can lead to more serious issues. Bonding offers a great way to repair a chip or crack in your tooth by sealing it and covering it, restoring your tooth’s structure and appearance.

To cover up discolouration: Sometimes factors like stage of life, lifestyle and tooth damage can lead to tooth discolouration on one or more teeth. While teeth whitening treatments can be a great idea for whitening all of your teeth, dental bonding can be a good solution for disguising tooth colouration on just one tooth or for rejuvenating your whole smile.

To disguise the appearance of gaps: While some of our patients love the gap between their teeth, others don’t. For those patients, dental bonding can be an option for disguising the appearance of tooth gaps.

To create a lengthened appearance: Some people have shorter teeth than others, with teeth grinding and daily use also contributing to wear over time. Our dentists can use bonding to change the appearance of the length of one or more of your teeth to create a more even smile.

To reshape teeth: You may have one or more teeth you feel are misshapen, disrupting the appearance of your smile. Dental bonding can be used to adjust the shape of a tooth to blend in more seamlessly with your surrounding teeth. To restore enamel: Sometimes, we may recommend bonding to restore enamel in cases of acute or advanced loss of enamel. By applying bonding material to the affected tooth, it can benefit from an additional layer of protection.
